Original antique Chicago Tribune Art Supplement portrait of Admiral Togo Heihachiro, published June 18, 1905.
Admiral Togo was Japan’s most celebrated naval commander and hero of the Battle of Tsushima (1905), one of the most decisive naval victories in modern history. His leadership secured Japan’s emergence as a global military power.
This richly printed chromolithograph depicts Togo in full Imperial Japanese Navy dress uniform adorned with medals and honors. Portrait supplements honoring world military leaders were widely collected and framed in the early 20th century.
